i used to say that i didn't like the Australian accent, that was before i came here.

some examples of Australian accents.

now that i'm here, i find that many young people don't sound like that.

instead, i hear this a lot:
phrasing everything as a rhetorical question ending in "hey". 
e.g. "It's pretty hot out here hey?"
thought it was a Perth thing, but TV Tropes says it's a Brisbane thing...

i was in the computer lab today and could hear the conversation of the boys at the other end of the room.
so many rhetorical "hey" inflections going back and forth!
quite endearing actually.

then i realised my Leonora team leader, my flatmates and some other people around here use that pattern of speech quite often.
i couldn't find a video example of it though.

    tee hee i would try to learn it but i'm terrible at picking up accents
