17 june 2013, 12.07pm - visas

tried to renew my student visa online last night but couldn't because my confirmation of enrolment (CoE) number was not valid.
so armed with my documents, went to school to hand in my assignments, then called the department of immigration and citizenship (DIAC) for more information on why the number wasn't valid.

i walked toward the student central office at Curtin while hearing the DIAC recorded messages on loop.
was put on hold for 20 minutes.
finally, got to an operator. told her my CoE number, and she said it had expired, and she didn't know why, because my period of study was until june 2014.
so she said to check with the school.

went to student office, got the queue number for general enquiry.
passed the old guy at the counter my CoE to check why it was invalid.
he asked if i changed courses, which i didn't.
waited 5 minutes.
he came back and was all condescending, like i wasted his time.

he said my visa is valid until march 2014, so i have to wait until i get my semester 2 results (that's jan/feb next year) before i can get a new CoE.
when i asked why my current CoE expired, he said it's because it says "Singapore" as the address of the DIAC office. ridiculous.
then he kept saying, "okay? bye." before i was ready to go.
annoying guy... >(

my theory is that my current CoE for feb 2013 to june 2014 expired the moment i entered Australia, because the CoE was for students applying outside Australia.
which is bloody stupid.
this is bloody stupid and a pain in the ass because now i have to worry about my studies and also worry being deported if i don't get my new CoE before march.
and i probably need a new health check which is not covered by the insurance.
and i can't settle the fee for the visa with the university office until then.
