documentary Sunday

Native America before European Colonization
1:37:50

this documentary is hell good.
20 minutes in and my mind is blown already by how corn was created from a weedy wild grass, and how the Americas only had llamas and turkeys as domestic animals.

and 2 other good 'documentaries' i saw:

Secrets of the Sexes - Episode 3: Love (BBC)
46:10

they analysed the relationship between 4 couples - a newly married one, 2 couples in trouble, and a couple happily married for 70 years.
the old couple was so so cute :3
and according to neuroscientists, love suppresses the part of the brain that processes critical judgements and activates the feelings of exhilaration and motivation.
but that only lasts for about 2-3 years, so then maintaining relationships are like "going to work", according to the old couple.

BBC Three - Secrets of the Superbrands (Fashion)
57:46

the host is quite like me, he's not into expensive stuff, so it's fun to see him investigate why people like big brands, and how brands create loyalty.
in the episode about technology, people queued up a day in advance just to be the first to enter a new Apple store. wtf.
and apparently there's a part of the brain that evolved for religion, which is what Apple exploits by making their stores look like cathedrals, and their staff act like evangelicals.
