2 mar 2014 - future music festival

went to the Future Music Festival at Joondalup.
it was pretty damn good time, in retrospect. haha.

this was the set list. for some reason they list the acts in reverse chronological order.
i decided that 12 noon was too early to go and tried to make it there by 3pm to see Naughty Boy.
the train from Perth to Joondalup was unusually packed with crazy young people singing at the top of their lungs and sitting on each other.

this is the entrance to the venue.

i arrived late and only caught their last song - La La La. i only knew that one song anyway, so it was good.

the annoying thing about the venue was that the 2 main stages were maybe 1 km apart.
i walked back and forth just to get a sense of the place. the main stages were built in grassy hollows separated by a long white building in the middle. lots of food and drink stalls, with portaloos.

i hung around for Tinie Tempah - i liked his music since his first hit single, so that was really fun.
he was bouncing all over with his crew and he said he liked our energy. :D

the next highlight was Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. not surprisingly, there was a huge turn out for that.
when i first arrived, i stood behind some annoying French people who whistled loudly at random and seemed to dislike being there.
so i moved in and tried to find a spot where people weren't asses.
it was quite difficult, since many were not interested in the music and just taking photos of themselves, or they were provoking people by making them fall off dustbins, or smoking, or squeezing past me to get in/out. that was the most annoying. this was the case with all the performances.

Macklemore is strangely handsome even though his features are a little too much.
he was proud that Australia supported gay marriage and did a little speech before Same Love.
and he had dancers and amusing video introductions to his strange alter egos.
he also jumped into the crowd and body surfed for a bit. crazy guy.
he said he liked our energy too. :D

then i went for Rudimental  - the audience was not that into them and it wasn't packed. but they had good tunes. i think the main guy was drunk. lol. he was eskimo-kissing the audience. but still highly functional. the vocalists were pretty cool.

this was from the Deadmau5 stage. meh. interesting video displays but the music wasn't anything i liked.
for dinner and rehydration, i had to buy a $9.50 fish wrap and a $5 slushie. and i had to use the portaloo twice. although they were gross, they didn't smell. what sorcery was that?

after that, i went for Knife Party and Chase & Status. their sets were at the huge tented area with some cool laser light displays.
my god, that was awesome. especially Chase & Status! their music was all killer no filler. :DDD
