photos from 20 april 2013 - northbridge

last night my flatmates (SB and G) took me out to Northbridge for a sampling of the nightlife.

G's old school mate was performing at The Bird, it's an intimate live house with a good atmosphere (slightly hipster). his band was called Dead Owls.
i didn't know what to expect, but yeah! live indie music!
this was the 3 piece band called Sincerely, Grizzly, which was the opening act.
they have some good beats when they do a tempo change. couldn't make sense of the vocal melody.
and the drummer busted a hole in the bass drum.
we hung out in the al fresco area - it's a charming mish-mash of old bricks, tin roofs with chimmeys, different fencing, trees and random seating areas.
this is the 2 piece Dead Owls - just a drummer and guitarist/vocalist.
but so amazing. their rhythm was tight and their music was rocking!
i believe their genre is called "indie rock".

G's friend is the drummer.
it was quite funny because although i was 45 cm from the stage, the 2 tallest guys in the world (1 of them, the singer from Sincerely, Grizzly) stood in front of me, so i couldn't see anything.
then we moved on. Northbridge is cool because the nightlife spread out across a few streets, so it wasn't crowded although there were many people around.
the roads were mostly closed to traffic and the buildings were all low-rise, some historic, and there were only a few food joints open here and there.
here is a beat-box performer.  a few passer-bys broke out some cool moves - spontaneity!
it was cool to people-watch because many of the guys were quite easy on the eye.
the girls wore skimpy dresses and crazy heels.
and there were girls with bridal veils (see picture above), German bar-maid outfits, day-glo golfer outfits, and some shocking fashion disasters.
we were queuing to get into Paramount and there were exotic dance clubs on the opposite street.
cool...
there was a cover band at Paramount - their last 2 songs for the night was something by Oasis and "Pretty Fly for a White Guy."
and upstairs, it's a dance club. we didn't get on the dance floor, thankfully, because my flatmates weren't into dancing.
and i found something cool -strange art covering a dilapidated building - it's Street Gallery!
going to visit it some time.

we all keep our personal space back in the dorm, but that night, G suddenly tried to carry me from behind by grabbing my ribs (to measure my weight). he also rested his arms on me, poked me, and petted my head. lol
