9 april 2013, 5.01pm - videos

was talking to a classmate and found out that he was the one who was more "unlucky" than i was.
i'm referring to the incident that the uni told us that there was no mid-year intake.
i had not yet travelled to Australia when they told me.
he was the student who was already in Australia.

i wanted to ask how he handled that shocking news but then realised that i, and maybe he too, had stuff we weren't supposed to talk about.
anyway, he didn't portray any resentment, he just said he decided to stay and do electives before the course actually started, as advised/offered to him.

it's quite surprising because i thought he really got the short end of the stick, but looking at it from another angle, maybe he likes how things worked out.
maybe he gained a very rewarding experience from doing his electives, giving him more time to figure out his path in life.

i was also watching TED videos this morning.
i like how we can access such inspiring information in such attractive format.
courageous and amazing and eloquent speakers telling us in easily understandable terms, how we can become fitter, happier and more productive people.

as opposed to my artistic/intellectual lecturer, who talks about destabilizing knowledge and different difficult theories that make my brain explode.
all i remember from his talk were the images - his paintings (he cross-dresses), the QVB, the Hornsleth Rolex watch, the Modernist ping-pong tables.
oh yeah, and how eHarmony facilitated 1 in 6 marriages (it's marriage arranged not by parents, but by ourselves + computer matching).

won't it be nice to be an elite too, instead a bum who likes watching videos and avoids studying by blogging.

anyway, here is a cool video.

Gillian Wearing / 2 into 1 (1997)

lecturer showed us this as an example of how simple inversion of a mother and her children can result in very thought-provoking work.
