Kalgoorlie, 13 april 2013 - speedway

photos from 13 april - we went to Kalgoorlie.

train leaves at 7.10am on Saturday. there is no public transport available to get us to the train. >O
luckily flatmate asked flatmate to drive us there, who kindly agreed. :)

train ride was comfortable. onboard entertainment! i watched "Finding Nemo". :)
Australia is vast.
after 7 hours, we reached Kalgoorlie.
 white and blues.
a mining town with a transient population - people in the mining industry fly in and out.
country roads.

the town hall was peach colored.
what's in the city market? K-mart.
nice vintage welcome mat and bricks.
 old-looking hotels.
we ate at Paddy's Ale Pub.
my beef burger ($17) was awesome - cheese, egg, bacon, onions, tomato, beef patty on a huge toasty bun. and crispy fries! too bad i couldn't finish it all :(
we went to Speedway via taxi because facebook said Ewan was filming there that night.
seemed like no one in the town knew about the filming.
 trailers for the film crew.
flatmate was brave and we went to talk to someone there.
the man was very nice and patiently explained that Ewan was not there yet; there won't be much we can see of him, since he's in bad-guy character; and he will be busy with filming because he was late arriving from another location.
i think he is the producer. he looked like a skinny George Lucas in a long-sleeve collared shirt.
we walked around Speedway - it's a car racing pit out in the desert.
Ewan was filming all the way at the back of the pit area, where the racing cars get ready.
can't see anything from the public area. :(
producer man had previously explained that security was strict about pit access so there was no way for spectators to go in.
from the stand. i took videos of the crazy drifts the cars did around the bend.
the track of red desert sand, watered to make it muddy.
when the cars drift, a spray of solidified mud would fly out at us.
the mud became as hard as pebbles! crazy heat from the tires.
pit crew went out to watch the races too.
from the bridge over the pit gate. the film crew was filming number 12, a yellow car, out on the tracks.

this movie Ewan is filming, called Son of A Gun, will come out next year!
