The Ruins of Christiansborg Palace
we learnt a lot about its medieval history. it was burnt to the ground a few times!
the previous castles were really fairy-tale looking!
we emerged above ground again.
this is the present castle, just part of it, of course.
i asked a nice looking Palace staff guy on a bicycle how to get to the Royal Stables.
he was jolly and helpful :)
The Royal Stables
the stables were a bit away from the castle, because its grounds were so big.
this is a small little exhibition area of saddles and carriages.
the horses were all away on summer vacation!!
/sad face
in the summer, they go to graze fresh grass somewhere.
so we were faced with the empty stables.
but i was touched by a small exhibition on King Christian X (1870 - 1947), who loved his horses.
he rode them daily in the streets without guards, and became popular as a symbol of Denmark strength in the face of German Occupation.
wire mock-up of a horse parade.
a view of Christiansborg Palace, with the ubiquitous cyclists.
in hindsight, i think visiting the main palace and reception rooms would be damn nice.
then it was cheapo lunch somewhere in the shopping area.
