Stockholm - day 8 - Natural History Museum, Liljeholmen

after the gardens, we went to Natural History Museum (Naturhistoriska riksmuseet).
it was just across the rail track / road,  so we had to go back to the train station to get there. -.-

the museum is in a stately and grand brick cathedral-like building, but its exhibits are geared towards educating young kids about the wonders of the natural world.

there were very pretty stuffed animals though.
we had a picnic lunch again in the yard area in the heart of the building, near the cafeteria that had nice looking desserts.

the rest of our day was spent traveling back to the city and getting lost trying to find the Swedish History Museum (Historiska Museet).
even though i noted down the public transport to get there - train, then bus, then a long walk - i didn't expect to be mystified by the large former barrack compound the museum was in.
there were no clear signs leading to the entrance of the museum, so we spent 15 minutes grumpily going around it.
and by the time we finally found the building that the museum was in, and its entrance, we only had 30 minutes before the place closed for the day.

we went to the Viking exhibition which was filled with rune stones and treasures, but didn't see the gold vault.

fortunately, the day ended on a good note.
we had plans for dinner with C and an old friend, M, whom i got to know in Korea.
M lived in Liljeholmen, in one of the new apartments near the waterfront.
the area is exceedingly chic and pretty as it was newly developed and had a stunning public hang-out area, which was like modern art.
we saw kids jumping off the pier and people jogging along the bank - it's a really nice place to be in.

we ate American-style food at Restaurang BankOmat Seaside, which was scrumptious, and had a lovely chat about old times and future travels.
