yesterday i went to East Victoria Park.
there was a coffee table and a big red leather sofa in the middle of store - these books were on spread out on the table like a buffet.
the open book is entitled Animals With Sharpies.i think it developed from the artists' (Royal Art Lodge) website - where it is not absurd for animals to write us a message.
i want to read this book - it's about pop culture and Kurt Cobain and a lot of other random stuff.
this is a how-to guide on how to have a perfect vintage tea party - with cake recipes and instructions on how to create Minnie Mouse hair.
Taschen always publishes beautiful art books. Mark Ryden's art features big-eyed dolls in dream-like environments. but most significantly he did the album cover for Michael Jackson's Dangerous - that artwork mesmerized me as a child.
then i went to Nosh, which is a gourmet food store.
the shop not only looks wonderful, but the staff were very nice too.
they made me feel welcome by offering me their tea sample and telling me more about the shop.
these mini kettles are so cute.
the lady at the counter said she was a finance graduate and worked in the corporate world before changing her career path to work at Nosh.
i wish i could be so lucky as to work in such a lovely place surrounded by gourmet food and pretty things.
went back to Crow Books for the live poetry session because i always wanted to see one for myself.
poet no. 1 - Coral Carter. she recited poems about aging and loss - her style is more like plain-speech. was caught by surprise when she started to cry while reading a stanza about leaving home. it was a poem about leaving something behind as one passed through the seven gates of hell.
poet no. 2 - Julie Watts. her poems have a very lyrical and feminine quality with beautiful metaphors and imagery.
published in a collection entitled Honey and Hemlock.
poet no. 3 - Jackson. she performs her poems, which was very enjoyable. plain-speech style as well.
poet no. 4 - Indigo Eli. she really performs her poems - theatrical and attention-grabbing. it was captivating to see all the emotions on her face and in her movements.
