14 jul 2013 - MoMA

yesterday i went to the Art Gallery of W.A.
i signed up to help out for their MoMA series - they collaborated with the New York Museum of Modern Art so they are now showing a collection called "Van Gogh, Dalí and Beyond" --- got to see it for free :D

the title is misleading though - there is only one Van Gogh painting and maybe two pieces by Dali.
but they have artwork from Toulouse-Lautrec, Klimt, Cezanne, Monet, and Kahlo as well.
it showcases an amazing range of beautiful work, which makes the exhibition pretty spectacular.

Van Gogh - The Olive Trees.
... the lady is a volunteer and she is leading a free guided tour.
i know i like the artist who painted this landscape, but i can't remember who it is.
artfully assembled collection of rocks = art sculpture.
detail from the painting seen above.
nice pattern of people in onesies joined together as they fly over a mustard yellow desert.
i would like to decorate my house with such an epic wall.
Toulouse-Lautrec painted this. i am very irritated by the thin panel of glass over this painting because it prevents me from fully appreciating his masterful brush strokes.
another object i would like to hang in my home. the shadow makes it look double-y cool.
people were encouraged to draw their own portraits.
this is a Picasso - Violin and Grapes.
this is a sculpture i remember from Dr T's lecture. it's a representation of a bottle.
Picasso again - Goat Skull and Bottle.
another good home deco idea - fill a small cabinet with a neat display of beads, toothbrushes, keys, not forgetting a plastic tomato and a mirror.
 pretty colors!

the volunteer duties include manning the enquiry desk/cloak room, stopping people from bringing in food/drink/big bags, scanning tickets, handing out and collecting audio guide devices.
so here's the view from behind the enquiry/cloaking counter.
nice place to people-watch.
that's the ticket scanner and the entrance to the exhibition.

going to volunteer again next Sunday - hope i can get a better look at the collection.
