Kurt Vonnegut, Jr

something to cheer me/you up ...

this is about Kurt Vonnegut, one of my favorite authors. i thought he was cool when i read his books in secondary school. last week, during class, lecturer showed us a video of him talking about narratives in graph form.

this true story about the man was from 2006. some students wrote him a letter for their class assignment. and he wrote back, addressing all of them.
he was 84 years old in 2006. damn. i should have wrote him a letter too, since he said it cheered him up in his "sunset years". (;_;)

here's a quote from the letter:

What I had to say to you, moreover, would not take long, to wit: Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow.
what a swell guy.
when i don't do things because i'm not good at them, i'll think of this quote.
