going to Perth city

some stuff for first-time visitors to Perth (myself included).

i picked up a brochure published by Hello Perth and Fremantle from the airport - i think it's quite useful. their website has downloadable maps and lots of info too.

some history as stated in the brochure:
- in 1827 Captain James Stirling arrived at Swan River and thought the area was not bad.
- 3 towns were formed: Perth, Fremantle and Guildford.
- 9721 convicts from Britain were sent to the towns between 1850 to 1868.
- in 1890 gold was discovered in the region, resulting in a population boom and Perth becoming the trade capital for the colony.
- the economy here still relies heavily on mining and natural resources.

if you go to the travel wiki on Perth, it has more practical advice, but i am not able to verify any of it. haha.

...

anyway, tomorrow, i'm going to go to the city to see the cultural centre (at James Street) and the park (Kings Park).
it's a direct bus ride (45 mins).

bus route map.

the cultural centre is where the art galleries, museum, and state library are located.
entry to all of them is free.
i'm mainly interested in the Art Gallery of WA, because my tutor mentioned it today.

and the park has a 20 min long (one way) tree-top walk, which is free too, and should be nice.
note to the OCBC Skyway at Gardens by the Bay: the "Supertrees" can have more complexity resembling real trees, and the walkway can be longer and involve more trees.

hope to get some nice photos out of the excursion.

    Kings park is nice.
Ran through there when I was in Perth on a business trip a few years back. The view overlooking the river is really nice, and there are nice jogging trails.
Remember to slap on the sunblock, though !
Don't recall going through the tree top walk.
