9 march 2013 - street malls, Cultural Centre, Kings Park

so i went to the city yesterday. here are some (more than 20) pictures.
took bus 34. dropped off somewhere with historical buildings.
that is the Town Hall.
this is Hay Street Mall. no street performers, some cafes, many benches.
wasn't interested in the shops.
 some fancy building.
the inside of a random quiet arcade.
i did a u-turn and the pedestrian mall continues on Murray Street.
this is Forrest Place. it has a huge water feature between Forrest Chase mall and the Commonwealth bank building.

amazingly, i found the Cultural Centre without knowing where i was. didn't consult a map either.
awesome.
where i was on the map of the Cultural Centre.
inside the the shop for Art Gallery of Western Australia.
bored employees made interesting "do not touch" signs for the skull.
found the permanent exhibition quite impressive. they have stuff from Australia and elsewhere, from 1800 to today.
inviting kids to make modernist art.
Dragonball = modernist art.
the Art Gallery used to be the police courts. pretty cool to see the court room with recreated furniture.
from the magistrate's point of view.
that's the exterior of the Art Gallery.
 artsy stairs.
random dinosaur at the Western Australian Museum.
old school bones at the animal exhibit.
the peak of that bison's back is probably 2m high.
the history of Australia exhibit was in this great empty hall. i didn't see any signage stating what is this hall.
their website says actually the former Public Library building (1913).
opening unlabelled drawers in the kids section. found prince-nez. it's really random.
the whole museum is pretty random.
so i randomly walked out to a narrow path and saw people having lunch. looked like a private function.
but it's actually the Museum Cafe. located in the Old Gaol building. wacky.
this is the view to the courtyard from the Old Gaol interior.
they used to have public executions around there.
that's the cafe front. so cheery. the dude was making ice-cream floats. i bought a ice-cream.

then i took the free bus to get to Kings Park.
curly overhead pedestrian bridge to a path that leads to the park.
the path became a trailing hike created in memory of the Australian soldiers who fought in Papua New Guinea (Kokoda Track).
i was basically climbing up a steep hill, so i was tired and sweating by the time i got here - the top of the hill overlooking the river and city.
here's the Cenotaph and Court of Contemplation to commemorate soldiers who died in WWII.

the tree-top walk was closed since it was past 5pm so i headed home after a quick stroll nearby.
the park is really huge so i only saw 5% of it.
