helsinki airport - 9 jul 2014

i'm going to start blogging for my backlog of trips now, starting with the one to Stockholm + Copenhagen.

me and my mom took Finnair because my well traveled Swedish friend said it was the cheapest one.
SGD 1155 for Singapore to Stockholm, via Helsinki.

the flight to Helsinki was almost full.
the usual uncomfortable seat, where there is no back support because it's curved too far in.
i think i watched one movie on their non-state-of-the-art entertainment system and slept miserably for the rest of it. service and food was adequately good for a no frills airline, i.e. additional drinks and stuff have to be purchased.
i liked the unique and bold pattern of the Finnish designer Marimekko featured on their paper cups and blanket.
deep blue finger print dot pattern for the cups and light green large giraffe squares for the blanket.
that's throwing in a sense of humor. i like.
and i learnt that Moomin was created by a Finnish illustrator.

we departed at 11.35pm and arrived there at 6.35am the next day.
Jul was the height of summer and it was very sunny and warm. i can only imagine how dreary and cold it would during the other times of the year, from seeing all the radiators around.

their airport was compact but still impressively clean, sleek and nice-looking.
i remember their toilet being located in some basement and we had to go down 2 flights of stairs.
alternatively, there was a lift but we didn't see it until we gone down there and no one used it anyway.

2 languages used in Finland - Finnish and Swedish - and then English for the rest of us.
immigration was swift, hardly any queues.

a smattering of shops along one side of the walkway.
i saw reindeer meat in the food section. but of course.

the contents of their vending machine.
chips, gummies, chocolate, mints and condoms. nice.

then we waited for our connecting flight to Stockholm at 8am.
one annoying thing was that Finnair changed the airport we were due to arrive at, from Bromma to Arlanda, without any reason. i only took notice of their email 1 week before the flight.
Bromma was close to my friend's house and close to the city center, whereas going to Arlanda incurred substantial additional transport cost.
