melbourne - 10 dec 2013

we walked up Victoria Street and found a cool cafe that played rap / hip hop music. good music to wake up to. the address is 385 Victoria Street.
we went to Gertrude Street on the way to the Melbourne Museum and found some cool shops.
hand made aesthetic
R shopped at Little Salon which was at approx 65 Gertrude Street. i noted that the cafe/restaurant next door was extremely cool. look at their old skool outdoor furniture. i think they sold South American food. too bad we didn't get to try it.
yes we shouldn't eat shark fin soup
i lamented that i didn't capture the long-haired and attractive Asian man who walked pass this piece of building art.
we went to the Melbourne Museum. it is a hell good museum.
very extensive and the display were very informative and interesting.
i learnt that aboriginals wore possum skins - real thick and soft.
there was this articulated thing that they projected light on, for story telling.

i liked the colors.
large video displays.
mourning for loss of life and livelihood.
i thought the section on the aborginals was really moving. R said it was sort of apologetic. but they still can't right the wrongs they did to them...
a whale
dinosaursssss
i love the way they displayed them bones.
woooott
hallo squidward
rocks. i saw so many beautiful rocks.
body exhibition
from another level. there were many school kids on their excursion.
i love this display. dead taxidermy on the terraced steps.
a small illusion room which i didn't understand. apparently after walking through the room, i can see a video of how i was affected by my perception of the space.
there were small peepholes featuring common scenes from dreams or nightmares. this was one of them. nice.
and there was a big garden with lots of pretty little birds. i love this museum.
but wait, there's more!
there was this awesome section on Melbourne's past and present.
a bit of history on Luna Park, their amusement park. i photographed some kids on the roller coaster cart.
recreation of early colonial houses. i was surprised at how interactive and real the interiors were. the kids were bouncing on the beds and tugging at knobs.
apparently the mega supermarket, Coles, was started by this book seller in Melbourne. he was a pretty cool guy.
we left the museum and walked to the land of hipsters - Brunswick. there was a crazy giraffe.
we walked and walked. finally we chanced upon this Deli at 251 Brunswick Street. it was very cute and our waitress was pregnant and all the staff were nice.
the deli section.
my food~~ veal osso bucco. it was damned good!!! tender and flavorful.
R's calamari salad. was good too.
then we went to 2 stationery shops at 217 and 199 Brunswick Street. this is one of them, called Zetta Florence. nice open layout.
actually Brunswick has a lot of boutiques.
supa cat.
R was hungry and had egg and ham crepe. i had banana ice cream. this was at Breizoz French Creperie. the staff was French! the lady at the counter was Japanese. interesting.
for dinner, we met my Malaysian friend and her friend at Degraves Street. she was in Melbourne for 1 year of working holiday. /jealous
our meal was at Quarters. Degraves Street is a wide walkway lined on both sides with eateries and with tables in the middle of the street.
my friend's calamari and chorizo
my wedges. oh lordy. the bowl was as big as my head. and they were delicious.
we walked down Southbank... that's the river, the mistletoe bridge, and the CBD area.
saw some street art, some big flames at Crown Casino and some bridges.
Southbank is too new and soulless, i feel. lol
