finally figured out what was making this terrible racket for the last few months.
it wasn't the hard drive, but the fan on the right.
it's very loud, like sitting next to diesel engine.
i endure it by sticking my fingers into my ears, or going to the library.
luckily the hard drive is not dying yet.

It's on its final leg... Either get the fan replaced or risk burning out the processor....
