my work

today was another meeting with supervisor.
i made 3 new videos and had been re-working the other 6.
for my final presentation, i have 9 videos.
he really liked the video where i was painting my hand white.
haha. so easy to please.
BUT
it was not easy to come up with simple videos that star the hand.
it seems easy though.
i think, if my parents saw my videos, they would be like "....... what. is. this.".
because, quite frankly, they are ridiculous. a brunch of slo-mo videos about nothing in particular.

a hand moving across a corrugated wall. in a glove. struggling with red thread.
quite abstract. definitely not useful for anyone.
i think my videos are lame.  and stupid. (not really, but kinda. #humblespeak)
but i am proud of them.
because i made art. even if it is silly, it is my art.
it is my creation that is unique in itself.
and it has strength because it was born out of my time here.
something from nothing.
even if it's weird shit.
also, i made it look nice with FinalCutPro.
that's right, i learnt how to use video editing effects sparingly and effectively.
i can make things that look like modern album covers.
of course, my supervisor has to be credited with the idea of unifying the 3 walls of video with the pattern of shapes. and selecting the anchoring videos.
his advice has certainly helped. even though he pooh-poohed my music selection of an instrumental, and cringed at my lamb-heart video.
and it is also ironic that i am making videos for my degree now, since i used to watch videos all day in my room.
while i don't have breath-taking videos (see Lucy McRae), at least my videos are a lot fancier than last semester, when i only knew how making clips using iMovie and material from the Internet.
........it will be sad when this is all over and i go back to being a lazy slob that just watches videos all day.
perhaps i will do something to change that. highly unlikely though.

x-men and other stuff

hmm
last Saturday we watched the new X-Men. it was nice.
the opening was hell cool.
the slo-mo bullet scene was cute.
under-use of J Law.
it also needed more Fassbender and McAvoy - they are collectively known as McBender, apparently.
had a discussion about Bryan Singer with a friend who clearly was right but i was too confused to understand.
i thought Singer directed X-Men : First Class. and i totally didn't remember much of the first 2 X-Men movies he directed, except that Storm had long hair.

other movies i watched:
Django Unchained. made me into a Christoph Waltz fan. he was the best thing in the movie.
The Great Gatsby (with Leo DiCaprio). meh. wasn't feeling the Baz Luhrmann directorial vision. i really like Carey Mulligan but i kept thinking of her in Never Let Me Go. that movie was so gooood.

i had a Schake. it's a milk bar at a food court at Carousel. order customized milk shakes via the touch screens. options are Malteasers and other candy, fruit, yogurts, and health food.
i had strawberry and yogurt. another cool thing was that they printed out your name in cursive script and stuck it on the drink.

i also called both my grandmothers today.
that was nice.

23 may 2014 - helping my friend

this is my friend's project - she's advocating that Chinese brushwork can be used for practicing mindfulness, for personal healing, for getting closer to God.
i helped her to film her actions for a while.

watched godzilla today - it was cool

autumn colors are nice

Godzilla!
watch it for the super awesome monster fight!
seriously, very nice battle. very nice monsters. very scary. very cool.
and finally, sensible use of Ken Watanabe. not making him talk much was very wise.

random photos

my friend making her wooden cups.
very cool

 i had quinoa
it was gooood

 roast lamb
it was good too

cloudy days at the park

12 may 2014 - phew

printed the 63 pages of my dissertation...
weight off my shoulders!
but it's just one thing. there're two other things to do still.

printing + binding = $27~...

this is my pork kebab. $8.80. so-so.

our class of 8 + tutor went to the Tav after handing in the dissertation.
half pint cider = $4.20.
stayed there for 3 hours, got to know them better.
my tutor was a still life model! try aggressive shouting, laughing or starting polite conversation when confronted with hostile people! go to the Barbican in London!
they are really cool people, actual artists, travelers, musicians, craftspeople.
it was nice to know them.

11 may 2014 - finally

 HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MUM

on the way to the library, got some pictures of the fall leaves.
i like the light in the first photo - woodland-ish.

ate one can of chickpeas with mixed veg in the morning
and stayed at my seat in the library reading over my paper
from 11am to 8+pm.

quite amazed i didn't move.
just sat there listening to j-pop and editing and formatting.
editing took a looong time since my writing didn't make sense.
supervisor read my draft and emailed back "bravo" with some minor comments. wtf
met my ex-colleague and chatted a bit.

went home, finished up my sourdough bread, danced along to Jimmy Fallon and J. Timberlake, played Call of Duty with friends... feels good killing zombies and it's nice to have social butterfly friends.

will go to uni tmr to print 3 copies of the dissertation to hand in.
then have to work on the pamphlet thing and video for final presentation. that is going to be horrible.

Hi hi Hi

Hi parents and readers

I'm still alive

Been having not such a nice time since Wed after supervisor told me to essentially change the whole structure of the final dissertation that I've been doing the whole semester

Finished first draft on Fri

Second draft last night

Going to do a final edit today and test the printout

Brain is fried but no biggie

Hope it goes well
And that everything is well with you

In other news, one of my flatmates is moving out. A bit sad. New person coming in on Mon.
